At what point does personal responsibility end and mobile encryption begin? Take the concern overencryption.jpg securing data while in transit to mobile hardware.

Recently, I discovered a growing concern that some people are insistent that improved Windows Mobile security needs to be added to Microsoft’s Direct Push e-mail system. As it stands now, MDP does not offer encryption once e-mail has been delivered to your handheld device. Should it? Is this not simply the responsibility of the handheld owner and not that of the company offering the OS for the device?

Microsoft’s Take. The message from Microsoft is clear: its Direct Push e-mail system protects you from point-to-point. Short of that, you need to look into other security options if you are concerned. So, should this be a concern? After all, Microsoft is pointing to aftermarket security tools available for the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform for those who want that "extra layer of protection."
